The "Force Field" of Exercise

PREVIOUS NEXT

I feel that the ability to make exercise a habit is an integral part in helping you overcome many of the barriers that keep you from exercising.

As a child I would have to say my all-time favorite movie was Star Wars. I must have seen that movie a dozen times. At the time any movie or television program that had something to do with space was at the top of my list.

One of the features of these movies I thought was just the coolest was the "force field." It was the invisible shield around a space station that deflected anything that tried to attack it. You may have seen this more recently in the movie Independence Day, starring Will Smith. If you recall, the United States sent up a bunch of fighter jets to fire missiles into the alien mega-ship. Their shots failed because they were deflected by a force field surrounding the spaceship.

Once you've made exercise a habit it's like having an invisible "force field" around you. Problems that at one time may have caused you to fail no longer have an effect. It seems like you're better able to resist adversities that come your way. This is true because you've been able to develop a tremendous commitment to it. A commitment that takes a lot more than a little adversity to break.
