Try Thinking of Success This Way

One of my all-time favorite authors is John Maxwell. He writes a lot of books on leadership, but one book I thought to be an absolute masterpiece was a book he wrote titled The Success Journey.

That book changed my whole thinking on how success is defined. John defines success as a process and not an outcome. You've probably heard the cliche "success is a journey not a destination." He describes success as knowing your purpose in life, growing to meet your potential and sowing the seeds to benefit others.

The beauty of this definition is that every day you can experience success in your life. Once you know your purpose there is always the opportunity for you to grow. In Maxwell's words, "Success is a continuing thing. It is growth and development. It is achieving one thing and using that as a stepping stone to achieve something else."

You can achieve growth in your profession, family life, and personal life. As you grow in your own life you can help meet the needs of others. There is no final destination defining success. It is a lifetime journey.
