How to Put the Important Things First: 1. The Pareto principle

The Pareto principle, originally stated by Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, says that 80% of the reward comes from 20% of your effort IF you put all your effort into that top 20%.

A good example of this principle in my line of work is that 20% of health club members are responsible for 80% of the product sales.

What you need to do is figure out the 20% of activities in your life that will give you 80% of the results. But, before you do this you need to know what type of results you are after. Is it career advancement, becoming wealthy, a great family life, a closer walk with the Lord or a healthy life?

Everybody will have a different answer. I can tell you one answer that may help in many of these areas...that is exercise. Earlier in this chapter we looked at how it contributes to stress relief, increased energy and the potential to becoming successful. Without your health many of these things aren't possible. What is your top 20%?
